Discovered a Nice Hong Kong-style Siu Mei in Los Angeles😍

As a native Cantonese, I haven't had siu mei (Cantonese BBQ) for half a year! During the Chinese New Year, I video-called my family and saw a large portion of siu mei on the table, which made me crave for it! I immediately searched for siu mei restaurants in LA and found this newly opened one. So, I made an appointment with my friend, and we finally tasted the long-missed flavor this week!

As soon as we entered the restaurant and heard the chef and waiters speaking in Hong Kong-style Cantonese, we knew it would be authentic. The accent of the chef who chopped the roast duck reminded me of the small shops in our urban village. The restaurant is quite popular, with many Cantonese aunties and families coming for takeout.

✅Siu Mei Rice Combo (Roast Duck + Char Siu + Roast Pork Belly) $19.99
Roast duck and char siu are my favorites! I loved eating plum sauce when I was a kid and always asked for extra packets! I once discovered that the plum sauce tasted different in another siu mei restaurant, and then I realized not all plum sauces are delicious. But the plum sauce in this restaurant is authentic! The acidity and sweetness are just right. The roast pork belly, made with pork belly, has crispy skin and tender meat.

✅Green Plum Shrimp $16.95
Shrimp, peanuts, and preserved vegetables are fried together. The shrimp is crispy without being too dry or greasy.

✅Green Wuzhi Intestinal Delight $17.95
As a sausage lover, I really like this dish! It's sour and sweet, very appetizing. It's comforting to have warm food on a cold Los Angeles evening.

✅Crispy Red-Braised Pigeon $19.95/each
I didn't expect to find crispy pigeon here! The pigeon smelled delicious when it was served. The skin was very crispy, and there was juice inside, which shows the chef's skill. Having grown up in Shenzhen and eaten Guangming pigeon twice or thrice a month, I must say this pigeon can't compare to Guangming pigeon! But having some authentic crispy pigeon is already quite good.

✅Mushroom Beef Tenderloin $19.95
Among five dishes, this one's my favorite. The mushrooms are fresh and sweet, and the beef tenderloin is tender and juicy.

The price per person for ordering dishes is $25-35 while the price for siu mei takeout is around $15-20 per person. Overall, it's pretty good!
